We decided to invest in a full-day tour with C2Rio Tours & Travel, which we booked using points through the Bilt Travel Portal. Priced at under $150 per person, we loved this tour as it enabled us to visit all the major landmarks in Rio de Janeiro, such as Christ the Redeemer, the Sambadrome, Maracaña, Catedral Metropolitana de São Sebastião, the Escadaria Selarón, and Sugarloaf Mountain consecutively. The package included a knowledgeable tour guide, hotel pick-up and drop-off, and a complimentary lunch. With just 4 days in Rio, it was a great opportunity to explore numerous monuments in a single day. Including some stops of the tour, below is a list of spots in Rio de Janeiro that I would've regretted missing.

  1. Christ the Redeemer - Located on Mount Corcovado in Rio de Janeiro, the Christ the Redeemer statue is a globally recognized landmark. Standing at a height of 98 feet and with an arm span of 92 feet, this masterpiece represents peace, faith, and unity in Brazilian culture. Crafted by French sculptor Paul Landowski and finished in 1931, the statue has evolved into a symbol of both culture and religion, drawing millions of visitors each year. During our tour, this was a must-see attraction, and if we had time for only one thing in Rio, this would have been our top priority.

  1. Copacabana Beach - Copacabana Beach, the heart of Rio de Janeiro’s coastline, is a stunning stretch of golden sand framed by turquoise waters and a lively culture. Famous for its vibrant energy, it's the perfect spot to relax, play beach sports, or soak in the local culture. By day, enjoy soaking in the sun, have delicious bowl of Açaí, and shop local vendors. By night, enjoy the bustling night life, filled with live music and dancing well into the early hours of the morning.

  1. Barra Tijuca - Barra da Tijuca, often called "Barra," is a sprawling neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro known for its pristine beaches, modern architecture, and vibrant lifestyle. We took a 20-25 minute Uber and spent the day just walking around and exploring Barra starting at Barra Shopping (see below). Offering everything from water sports to upscale shopping and dining, it’s a favorite destination for locals and tourists alike. With its relaxed vibe and stunning natural scenery, Barra perfectly blends urban sophistication with coastal charm.

  1. Ipanema - Ipanema, another one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic neighborhoods, is renowned for its stunning beach, lively culture, and chic atmosphere. Some of our favorite restaurants we enjoyed in Brazil were in this neighborhood along with trendy boutiques, vibrant nightlife, and the spirit of bossa nova. Whether relaxing by the sea or just wandering its streets, Ipanema captures the essence of Rio's charm.

  1. Sugarloaf Mountain (Pão de Açúcar) - Sugarloaf Mountain, one of Rio de Janeiro’s most iconic landmarks, offers breathtaking panoramic views of the city, coastline, and surrounding mountains. Accessible by a thrilling cable car ride, it’s a must-visit spot for a unique view of Rio. This towering granite peak is a symbol of Rio's natural beauty and vibrant spirit.

  1. Escadaria Selarón - The Escadaria Selarón in lapa is a magnificent mosaic staircase designed by Chilean artist Jorge Selarón. Featuring more than 2,000 tiles sourced globally, this colorful masterpiece pays homage to Brazilian culture and Selarón's artistic dedication. This iconic landmark is a must-visit for its unique beauty and artistic significance.

  1. Barra Shopping - Barra Shopping, located in Rio de Janeiro’s Barra da Tijuca district, is one of Brazil’s largest and most dynamic shopping destinations. With a mix of over 600 stores including high-end stores, local boutiques, restaurants, and entertainment options, it caters to every taste. Whether you're shopping, dining, or enjoying a movie, Barra Shopping offers a complete experience for visitors and locals alike. Shopping wasn't a huge priority for me on this trip, but if it is for you then you have to visit Barra Shopping.

  1. Parque Lage - Parque Lage, nestled at the foot of Rio's Corcovado Mountain, is a serene escape blending lush gardens, historic charm, and breathtaking views. The park features walking trails, exotic plants, and a stunning mansion housing an art school and café. Make sure to allot some time to simply wander and check all the the luscious gardens have to offer.

  1. Feira Hippie de Ipanema - The Feira Hippie de Ipanema is a vibrant open-air market held every Sunday in Rio de Janeiro's Ipanema neighborhood. Known for its colorful displays of handmade crafts, artwork, jewelry, and unique souvenirs, it’s a haven for art lovers and shoppers alike. Pro tip: bring cash if you are considering purchasing any larger artwork pieces.

  1. Shine Spa - If you're seeking a luxurious getaway, Shine Spa is the perfect choice. I had a delightful spa day with oceanfront views, exceptional spot treatments, and a peaceful escape. They provide a variety of services, including massages, facials, and body therapies designed to rejuvenate your body and mind. Despite the reasonable price, I found their products to be of high quality. For a massage, body scrub, and facial, I paid around $110 and had access to all the spa amenities. It was truly an unforgettable experience. I contacted them via WhatsApp before my trip to access the full menu and easily made a reservation, although walk-ins are also welcome.

    Final Thoughts

Rio de Janeiro is a city that captivates with its breathtaking landscapes, vibrant culture, and unforgettable energy. From iconic landmarks to hidden gems, every corner offers something unique to discover. Whether it’s your first visit or one of many, Rio leaves a lasting impression, calling you back for more adventures.
