Seattle is one of my favorite cities in the US. Seattle offers a unique blend of natural beauty, vibrant culture, and innovative spirit. Surrounded by water, mountains, and forests, the city offers stunning outdoor experiences, from hiking to kayaking. Seattle is known for its thriving tech industry, diverse food scene (especially seafood), and iconic landmarks like the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. The city's rich arts scene, coffee culture, and progressive atmosphere make it a dynamic and welcoming place to live and visit. For your next visit to Seattle, check my list below of some of my favorite restaurants around the city.

  1. Hot Cakes - a cozy dessert shop known for its rich, molten personal chocolate cakes deliciously paired with fresh ice cream. Known for their decadent flavors and organic ingredients, the menu also includes treats like boozy shakes, cookies, and seasonal desserts. With a warm, inviting atmosphere and locations in Ballard, Capitol Hill, and newly opened SoDo, it's a must-visit spot for chocolate lovers and anyone with a sweet tooth.

  2. List Restaurant - a trendy, intimate eatery located in the heart of Belltown. Known for its shareable small plates, modern Italian-inspired dishes, and an extensive cocktail menu. Their happy hour hosts an insane deal with half off food items, $24 bottles of wine, $7 glasses of wine, $10 cocktails, and $6 draft beer. Happy hour includes all day on Sunday and Monday as well as 4-6:30pm and 9-11pm on Tuesday-Saturday. With its chic vibe and budget-friendly specials, List offers a perfect blend of style and flavor in a cozy, lively setting.

  3. Unicorn - The perfect place to kick back and embrace your inner child. Unicorn is a whimsical, carnival-themed bar located in Capitol Hill. Known for its quirky decor, playful vibes, and creative cocktails, it offers a menu filled with comfort food favorites like fried snacks and indulgent sandwiches. The Narwhal balls, which are fried cheesy potato croquettes with roasted garlic aioli are my favorite. Happy hour is from 2-5pm Monday-Friday with discounts on drinnks and food. With arcade games, unique events, and a one-of-a-kind atmosphere, Unicorn is a fun and unforgettable spot for a night out.

  4. Beecher's Handmade Cheese - situated at Pike Place Market, this spot is a haven for cheese enthusiasts. Renowned for its artisanal, handcrafted cheeses, the shop provides delightful samples and an opportunity to observe the cheesemaking process through expansive glass windows. The mac and cheese is exceptional, making it an essential stop on any Seattle visit. Fortunately, Beecher's Handmade Cheese has been appearing in airports nationwide, including SLC, LAX, EWR, LGA, and MDW, ideal for enjoying your mac and cheese fix between trips to Seattle.

  5. The Walrus and the Carpenter - a charming oyster bar nestled in Ballard. Celebrated for its fresh, locally sourced oysters and creative small plates, it offers a seasonal menu that highlights the unique Pacific Northwest flavors. With its cozy ambiance and rustic-chic decor, it’s a favorite destination for seafood lovers and those seeking an unforgettable dining experience. Happy hour is offered from open to close (4pm-9pm) on Sunday-Thursday and includes discounts on oysters and drinks. We loved the oysters, grilled sardines, steak tartare, and butterbloom cheese.

  6. Pho Than Brothers - a beloved local chain known for its simple, delicious, and affordable pho. The University District spot is ideal for enjoying a pleasant lunch before or after visiting the picturesque University of Washington campus. Their other locations include Ballard, Fremont, Wallingford, and Lynwood. Featuring rich, flavorful broth and generous portions, it’s a go-to spot for comfort food seekers. Select your bowl according to the type and mix of meats you prefer, with choices such as eye-round steak, well-done flank, brisket, tendon, and tripe. Vegetarian and chicken options are also available. If you need a boost, I also suggest trying their Vietnamese coffee.

  7. The Pink Door - a truly iconic, Italian-inspired restaurant tucked away in Pike Place Market. Known for its unmarked pink entrance, the spot offers a romantic atmosphere, breathtaking views of Elliott Bay, and a delicious menu featuring fresh and seasonal ingredients. With its eclectic charm and occasional live performances, it’s a must-visit for a memorable dining experience. We enjoyed the Lasagna Pink Door and delicious seafood risotto that unfortunately is no longer on the menu.

  8. Foreign National - an intimate, dimly lit cocktail bar in Capitol Hill known for its inventive drinks and global small plates. With an eclectic, speakeasy-style ambiance and a focus on bold flavors, it’s a favorite spot for adventurous cocktail enthusiasts and late-night diners seeking a unique, upscale experience. Be prepared to wait for a little bit during busy nights like Fridays and weekends as reservations are unfortunately not accepted.

  9. Biang Biang Noodles - serves up hand-pulled noodles inspired by the street food of China’s Shaanxi province. Known for their wide, chewy noodles and bold, spicy sauces, this casual eatery offers authentic flavors with a modern twist. With a menu full of hearty, flavorful dishes, it’s a favorite spot for noodle lovers craving something fresh and satisfying.

  10. Dick's Drive In - a Seattle institution, serving classic, no-frills burgers, hand-cut fries, and creamy milkshakes since 1954. Known for its affordable prices, quick service, and retro vibe, it’s a beloved spot for locals and visitors looking to enjoy simple, quality fast food. With multiple locations across the city, it’s a must-visit for a quick bite and a taste of Seattle nostalgia.

  11. R+M Dessert Bar - an upscale, chef-driven spot in Capitol Hill specializing in exquisite, plated desserts. With a focus on seasonal ingredients and artistic presentation, their desserts are equally as beautiful as they are delicious. You can opt for a walk-up and take-out experience, as I did, or choose their distinctive multi-course dessert experience accompanied by craft cocktails and wine. Perfect for special occasions or a sweet indulgence, R+M is a haven for dessert lovers.

  12. Ivar's - a Seattle seafood icon, renowned for its fresh fish and chips, creamy clam chowder, and waterfront dining experiences. Established in 1938, it offers both casual walk-up stands and sit-down restaurants, many with stunning views of Puget Sound. A staple of Seattle’s culinary scene, Ivar’s is a must-visit for delicious, Pacific Northwest-inspired seafood. My personal favorite location is a short walk from Pike Place Market at Pier 54 perfect for a quick bite.

Honorable Mentions:

  1. The First Starbucks - located at Pike Place Market, is a historic landmark where the iconic coffee brand began in 1971. Preserving its original charm, the store features vintage decor and exclusive merchandise. A must-visit for coffee enthusiasts, it offers a glimpse into Starbucks' humble beginnings while serving classic favorites. Note that the store doesn't offer a significantly different menu than your average Starbucks, but it makes a good photo-op for any Starbucks enthusiast.

  2. Starbucks Reserve Roastery - a luxurious, immersive coffee experience located in Capitol Hill. Showcasing small-batch coffee roasting and innovative brewing methods, it also offers an elevated menu of unique drinks and artisanal food. With its stunning design and interactive atmosphere, it’s a must-visit destination for coffee lovers and Starbucks fans alike.
